Tomorrow is STANDFast. I was introduced to the idea from the Harry Potter Alliance.
Basically the idea is that tomorrow on December 3rd you give up one luxury item and donate the money that would have been spent on it to STANDFast in order to help people in Burma and Darfur through the G-I.net’s Civilian Protection Program.
Obviously, I plan to participate. However I was unaware of it when I went food shopping for the week, which would have been helpful. Every Wednesday I like to watch Pushing Daisies with a pint of Ben and Jerry’s. This week I’ll have an orange instead and save the pint of ice cream for next week. I’ll donate the money spent on the ice cream to STANDFast.
Also I have the day off from work and they are getting Panera for lunch at the office. My boss offered to let me come in since its my last week there and get the free lunch, but i said no because I have other things I need to do that day I’m going to donate the money that would have been spent on my lunch to STANDFast as well.
I encourage anyone who reads this to participate.
I was hoping to make a long intelligent well thought out post today, based on NaBloPoMo’s month but instead I feel like death warmed over. I will not let this deter my goal of posting a blog entry every day this month, and probably save that for a day where I have more time and feel less sick. Instead I will share something that I found absolutely funny.
Before I get into the funny, It is important to know that I do not have a license. I am also a recent college graduate and I live at home. My mom and I got back from work (she works down the street from me) and she got the mail. She mentioned that there was a lot of mail for me. Since I just graduated I have loans to pay off, and being the first of the month I thought they were all bills.
The first piece of mail was form AT&T. It was a piece of junk mail telling me if I joined with their service they would give me two free phones. Despite the fact that I have a year left on the cell phone contract my parents payed for while I was in college and it doesn’t make sense to cancel myself for the extra year I wouldn’t need two phones. But that is normal junk mail and nothing I haven’t seen before.
Then I had an envelope with Liberty Mutual as the return address. I live in Massachusetts and thought this might be an offer for health insurance since it is required in the state and I did just graduate. It ended up being an offer for auto insurance. No one else in my house got one. Just me. Just the person without the license.
The last peice of mail I recived was a large envelope that said respond in 4 weeks on it. I was sure this was regarding the one loan I haven’t heard from yet. It was Liberty Mutual attempting to get me to purchase auto insureance from them again.
I just don’t understand why my parents didn’t get any mail like this and found it ironic that the one who doesn’t drive did.
I already have a livejournal, but I use it mainly for fandom and ranting about real life. I want a place where I can discuss more than that, and have it be out in the open. I tried doing this on youtube and that failed miserably.
I just discovered NaBloPoMo which is like National Novel Writing Month except for blogging (and instead of one month a year they do it all 12). I’ll use thier suggested topics when I have nothing to talk about and at the end of the Month I’ll feel like I accomplished something.
